Maria Gorrettie Namuddu: Building the Invisible Infrastructure Powering Inclusive Finance in Africa
Spotlight Summary

The future of fintech isn’t only shaped by the products people see, it’s built by the systems working quietly behind the scenes.
For Maria Gorrettie Namuddu, creating those systems has become both her career and her purpose. As a fintech operator and product leader, she has dedicated her work to building technology that strengthens community-based financial institutions and expands access to financial services across Africa.
With a background in Telecommunications Engineering, Maria has spent years working at the intersection of technology, operations, and customer success. Her experience spans implementing digital financial systems, leading data migrations, and supporting the digital transformation of SACCOs, microfinance institutions (MFIs), Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), investment groups, and other grassroots financial organisations.
“My work focuses on turning technology into usable infrastructure that expands access, trust, and participation in the formal financial ecosystem.”
Before joining Baisoft Global, Maria served as Chief Operating Officer at Kanzu Finance Limited a Ugandan fintech providing cloud-based core banking infrastructure for community-based financial institutions. Her role extended well beyond day-to-day operations, encompassing product strategy, customer success, partnerships, regulatory alignment, platform implementation, and service delivery.
Her goal throughout was simple but ambitious: to ensure technology genuinely improved how financial institutions operated while helping them better serve the communities that depended on them. Rather than treating Kanzu Finance as simply another software company, Maria saw it as part of the financial infrastructure Africa needed to unlock inclusive economic growth.
The milestone that defined that chapter was leading the Kanzu Microloans Project an initiative supported by the Interledger Foundation to build infrastructure for open, instant, and interoperable microloans. She led the project across product design, implementation, and stakeholder coordination, ensuring every decision reflected both technical excellence and the lived realities of end users.
The project culminated in Kanzu Finance presenting its work at the 2025 Interledger Summit in Mexico City, where the team shared lessons from designing financial infrastructure for underserved communities on a global stage.
Today, Maria brings that same philosophy to Baisoft Global, where she serves as Head of Business leading the commercial and operational strategy behind the company’s growing suite of digital infrastructure products.
Baisoft Global’s flagship product, Peracosoft, is a Business Management Suite that unifies workforce management, precision payroll, asset tracking, biometric access control, talent acquisition, and accounting in a single platform built specifically for African business realities offline-resilient, low-bandwidth ready, and compliant with local statutory requirements including PAYE, NSSF, and LST.
But the infrastructure Maria is most focused on right now runs deeper than HR and payroll.
BaisoftPay is Baisoft Global’s live digital payments infrastructure, a purpose-built payments layer designed to sit at the heart of how African businesses move, manage, and account for money. Already serving operations in-house, BaisoftPay is the next critical piece in Baisoft’s vision of building end-to-end digital infrastructure for African enterprise: not just managing people and assets but powering the financial flows that connect them.

Maria is currently leading BaisoftPay through the Bank of Uganda’s PSP/PSO licensing process, with a clear vision of transforming the platform into a fully licensed, trusted fintech that expands access to secure and innovative digital financial services.
For Maria, the thread connecting Kanzu Finance’s community banking infrastructure and Baisoft Global’s enterprise payments layer is the same: the belief that the most transformative technology is the kind that disappears into the background so dependable, so integrated, that people stop noticing it and simply trust it.
Behind her professional achievements is a strong network of mentors – Girls For Girls, Uganda & FITSPA Women, peers, friends, and family who have supported her throughout her journey. Their encouragement has helped her remain focused on purpose rather than pressure, reminding her that meaningful impact is rarely achieved alone.
For young women considering careers in fintech, Maria encourages them to focus on building capability rather than waiting for confidence.

Her perspective reflects the kind of leadership Africa’s fintech ecosystem increasingly needs, leaders who understand that lasting innovation is built on strong operations, practical execution, and solutions designed for local realities.
Maria’s guiding philosophy captures her approach to leadership and impact: “Impact is not about being visible, it’s about being responsible for outcomes.“
