Zambia, China deepen digital ties

China could play a larger role in Zambia’s digital transformation plans after officials from the two countries discussed cooperation in digital infrastructure, emerging technologies and skills development.

The discussions build on existing Chinese-backed investments in telecommunications networks, digital connectivity and public infrastructure.

Companies including Huawei and ZTE have supported telecommunications network expansion, digital connectivity projects and ICT skills development initiatives in the country.

Chinese-backed financing has also contributed to transport, energy and public infrastructure projects.
