Waymo Partners With Nigerian Mobility Fintech Moove
Moove, the Nigerian mobility solutions pioneer, has announced a partnership with Waymo, Alphabet’s autonomous vehicle division.
This marks the first time an African startup has collaborated with a global leader in self-driving technology to manage fully autonomous fleets in the United States.
Launching Autonomous Fleets in Phoenix and Miami
The partnership will see Moove overseeing the fleet operations, charging infrastructure, and facilities for Waymo’s all-electric autonomous vehicles (AVs), starting in Phoenix in 2025 and expanding to Miami in 2026.
Waymo will continue to provide its Waymo Driver technology through the Waymo One app while Moove ensures seamless fleet management.

Bank of Tanzania Launches Quarterly Application Window for FinTech Regulatory Sandbox in 2025
The Bank of Tanzania promotes financial technologies (FinTechs) and innovations for inclusive and efficient provision of financial services and products through creating an enabling regulatory environment. The Bank of Tanzania has developed the Bank of Tanzania Fintech Regulatory Sandbox for creating a controlled environment through a test-and-learn approach for testing financial products and services that are not yet fully covered by existing regulatory frameworks under the BOT mandate.
In line with the Bank of Tanzania (Fintech Regulatory Sandbox) Regulations, 2024 (Regulations), which require applications to be submitted on a quarterly basis, the Bank hereby announces that applications for participation in the Sandbox will open quarterly, beginning January 2025. The first application window for 2025 will be open from 2nd to 22 nd January, 2025.

It also facilitates reimbursement claims to insurers, enabling healthcare providers to receive payments for their services more quickly.
FUNDING | MENA Startups Raise $258 Million Funding in November 2024, $1.5 Million in Web3
- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) remains the most attractive to investors in November 2024 with the country’s startups raising $146 million across 11 deals.
- Saudi Arabian startups followed, with 23 companies collectively attracting $94 million in funding.
- Egypt ranked third, as eight startups raised nearly $16 million – a substantial jump from the $1.6 million secured the previous month. This impressive growth comes despite ongoing geopolitical tensions along the country’s borders and the continued depreciation of its currency.

Norway’s Vipps launches world’s first Apple Pay rival for iPhone
Earlier this year, Apple agreed a deal with the European Commission to open up the NFC chip technology that enables iPhone users to make contactless payments to third-party providers. Facing similar regulatory pressure in the US, the tech giant then promised to give developers in host of other countries access to the technology.
Now, bank-backed mobile payments firm Vipps says it has becomes the first company in the world to offer a competing option to Apple Pay on iPhone.
Rune Garborg, CEO, Vipps MobilePay, says: “We have fought for years to be able to compete on equal footing with Apple, and it feels almost surreal to finally be able to launch our very own solution. This will now be a very exciting battle between the world’s biggest brand and Vipps.”
