How fintech SycaPay aims to expand across the continent from Abidjan

SycaPay is the first fintech to be licensed by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO). Active in six countries within the zone, it is now eyeing Central and East Africa. We meet its Djiboutian founder, Abdillahi Osman.

At 57, Abdillahi Osman gives the impression of being exactly where he always dreamed of being: at the head of his own company. When he left Djibouti in 1988 at the age of 20 to pursue higher education in Dijon, France, he may not have known it yet. But after earning a master’s degree in biology and then pivoting to computer science, he was already following the winds that would soon reshape the economy and society.
