Axian and Mastercard launch digital payments suite in five African countries

Axian Group says it has formed a strategic collaboration agreement with Mastercard to launch digital payment solutions in the five African markets where Axian operates mobile networks: Madagascar, Comoros Islands, Senegal, Togo, and Tanzania.

Under the agreement announced on Thursday, the two companies will introduce virtual and physical cards, as well as merchant solutions, under Axian’s Mixx and MVola brands in those five markets, where Axian currently operates under the “Yas” brand.

Consumers can use their Mixx and MVola apps to activate and top up their virtual card, instantly access live exchange rates and monitor or cancel transactions in real time. Axian said these features make international payments easier, faster and safer.

Erwan Gelebart, CEO of Axian Group’s digibank and fintech cluster, said the solutions will enable millions of consumers, SMEs and entrepreneurs to pay and be paid via mobile phones, which will also strengthen the digital ecosystems in those markets.
